Gardening in the SPRING
It was bound to happen......Spring has arrived!
Those birds make such a noise at Dawn - and you loathe to leave your armchair!
But, leave you must...... the garden awaits your attention... so what to do?
Let the weather and temperature outside determine your activity. There is nothing worse than being cold and wet doing those jobs. It is enough to put you off for life! So, if it is wet and windy keep off your garden and lawn. If it is windy and dry see if it is dry enough to mow your lawn. Blades a bit on the high side.
However, as temperatures improve, venture outside and take a look. Cut back any dead growth, lightly fork your borders and bulbs. If you were diligent last Autumn there will not be many weeds to remove!
If you have a greenhouse and want to grow your own bedding plants/vegetable plants then check your propagator and greenhouse heaters clean up your pots and trays.
Buy in your bags or bales of seed compost to warm up a bit before use.
Set your seeds according to the packet's instructions but, if it is very cold and you have no heat, then the seeds will not germinate... even if it is late - so be patient!
If you are planning to buy from your local garden centre, go back one and click on the Earl Shilton Garden Centres page and chose one of your local centres, from the list that is before your eyes!
Plants small and large are available to purchase but remember, you have to keep most annual flowers and some veg. frost free until early June.
SO! Now you are feeling very active!
Keep moving around. Spring feed your lawn with a Spring fertilizer Do not use your Autumn leftovers! Use new Spring fertilizer! It's on the shelf at your local Garden centre!
Looks out for slugs, flies of all descriptions and colour. Take preservative action.
You can now sit down and watch the Cup Final (ladies included!)
